Parinee Buthrasri is a cinematographer based in Thailand. She holds an MA in cinematography from the Film and TV School of the Academy of Performing Arts (FAMU) in Prague, Czech Republic. Working across Asia and Europe, she brings a unique sensibility to her projects through a heightened feminine gaze. Her works often blur the line between documentary and fiction and play with many formats across cinematic possibilities. She is interested in stories with leading female characters and the queer genre.
Parinee’s short film ‘Lemongrass Girl’ won Best Cinematography at the 2021 Calcutta International Short Film Festival, India, and 2021 FICBUEU International Short Film Festival, Spain. Her other works have premiered at renowned film festivals, including Locarno Film Festival, International Film Festival Rotterdam, Internationale Kurzfilmtage Winterthur, and Berlin International Film Festival. Besides narrative films, she often collaborates with many acclaimed artists, including Anocha Suwichakornpong, Tulapop Saenjaroen, Leila Hekmat, Tan Chui Mui, Enoch Cheng, and Marlies Poe.
In 2022, Parinee joined the camera studio at the Berlinale Talents and CHANEL x BIFF Asian Film Academy and received the CHANAL X BAFA Promising Filmmaker Award. She is currently teaching cinematography at the Fine and Applied Arts Division, Mahidol University International College (MUIC).
